Online Community Development Portal
Customers of the Community Development Department have access to a 24/7 online portal to submit applications for contractor registration and construction-related permits. The portal, at http://vail.onlinegovt.com/ also accepts planning applications for review by the Design Review Board and Planning and Environmental Commission. In addition, residents can access the citizen portal to submit a code enforcement request or check to see the status of any permit activity in their neighborhood. Here’s a recap of the various construction projects currently underway in Vail.
Vail Village
Vail Village Snowmelt Repair
The Town of Vail is completing snowmelt system repairs in the Vail Village this spring, with a second phase to follow in the fall after Labor Day. Spring work has begun and is expected to be completed by June 21. The work will be generally isolated to small areas along Gore Creek Drive. Work will require the removal of pavers and snowmelt in multiple areas at a time. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times; however, access will be detoured around work zones as necessary. Work will generally occur Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., with weekend work only as necessary. Pirateship Park
Contractors are performing maintenance work on the Pirateship Park play structure and site features. The work includes installing new climbers, repairing damaged concrete, replacing wood decks and painting. Estimated completion in early June. 595 E Gore Creek Drive Utilites Improvements
Work consists of installing new utilities within the ROW/parking lot and into all individual units. Completion is scheduled for mid-October. Contractor is RA Nelson, Abby Fix, 970-471-0633. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.
227 Wall Street, Four Season Concierge Remodel
Work consists of interior improvements, repainting, new window and exterior lighting. Start date was April 22, completion date is Nov. 1. Contractor is RA Nelson, Paul Burbridge, 970-471-9157. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval 970-390-4677.
183 Gore Creek Drive, Sitzmark Lodge

816 Forest Road Entry Bridge
Work continues on the new entry bridge and access road for the Forest Road duplex. Approval has been granted for use of the lower lot for staging of material and equipment. Start date was July 2022. Owens Residence, 272 W. Meadow Drive
This is a demo-rebuild of a single-family residence. Start date was May 2022 with completion scheduled for this year. Contractor is Vail Custom Builders, David Hawkins, 970-376-8250. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.
Lionshead
Vail Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements, 846 Forest Road
Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is upgrading infrastructure and the wastewater treatment process at their wastewater treatment facility in Vail. This project is scheduled through fall of 2024 and remaining work focuses on stormwater infrastructure, generator installation, and treatment improvements. ERWSD contact is Mark Mantua, 970-401-0822.
Outlying
Roundabout Lighting Improvements, I-70 Vail Town Center Interchange
Construction will resume the week of May 13. Expect single lane and shoulder closures as crews continue installation of underground electric and new streetlights. The project’s goal is to upgrade the lighting in the Vail Town Center roundabouts to meet current safety standards for both vehicles and pedestrians. East Vail Bridge Safety Improvements
Construction has resumed on the bridge safety project. Expect single lane and shoulder closures as crew continue install new guardrail and bridge rails. Crews hired by the Town of Vail are working on four bridges in East Vail: Nugget Lane over Gore Creek, Lupine Drive over Gore Creek, Bighorn Road over Pitkin Creek and Bighorn Road over Bighorn Creek. The project will repair and bring up to current standards the bridge and approach rails as well as scour mitigation and corrosion remediation on the Nugget Lane bridge. Traffic will be maintained throughout the project with periodic single lane/shoulder closures. Project contractor is Hallmark Inc. out of Denver. Ford Park Playground
A portion of the children’s play area at Ford Park will be undergoing repairs to several main structures. A fence will enclose the closed portion, unfenced areas will be open to the public. The work is scheduled to begin late in the week around May 15-17 and will be reopened by mid to late June depending on the extent of the work required once construction begins. Donovan Pavilion Landscaping
Contractors are installing landscape improvements to the entry of Donovan Pavilion to comply with Fire Free Five guidelines. Estimated completion is late May. Town of Vail contact is Gregg Barrie, gbarrie@vail.gov or 970-479-2337.
1488 Matterhorn Drive, Alura Residences Utility Project

Middle Creek Water Main Improvements
Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is improving local water infrastructure and available fire flows at the Middle Creek Village apartment complex. Work is expected to extend into July and includes valve installations and a new water main on Ma Bell Road. This project will impact local traffic patterns and traffic control personnel will guide traffic through the work area as necessary. The contractor is 360 Civil. Wall Replacement and Repairs in Dowd Junction
The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Siete Inc. will begin a wall replacement project along westbound I-70 in Dowd Canyon on Monday, May 6. Work will take place from Mile Marker 169.5 to MM 171.5 in Eagle County between Eagle-Vail and West Vail. Crews will remove portions of the existing earth wall above US 6 at MM 170.5 and replace it with a new Mechanically Stabilized Earth wall. Additional roadway widening, new guardrail installations, lighting and striping will also take place through the project zone. Travelers should prepare for a closure of the U.S. Hwy. 6 to westbound I-70 on-ramp starting early May and continuing through mid-August. Drivers will be rerouted on eastbound I-70 toward West Vail to the Exit 173 off-ramp, around the roundabout on Chamonix Road, to the westbound I-70 on-ramp back toward EagleVail.
