Municipal Court prosecution is contracted to an outside attorney who is employed by the city attorney’s office. Taggart Howard is the prosecutor for the Town of Vail.

If you are appearing for a traffic offense, you will be able to discuss your charge with the prosecutor the morning you appear in court after you are advised by the judge. If you reach an agreement, you can return to court to conclude the matter.

If you are appearing for a general ordinance violation and wish to speak to the prosecutor, after entering a plea of not guilty with the judge, you will be sent to the court office to schedule a pre-trial conference at a future date.

You may either appear in person on conduct a telephonic pre-trial conference in which the defendant must initiate the call and be at a phone where he/she can take a call if the prosecutor is busy and must return the phone call.
