Chief Ryan Kenney has been with the Vail Police Department since 2017 and started as Vail Police Chief in March of 2023. He spent 23 years with the Boca Raton Police Department in Florida before retiring from the department as a Lieutenant. Chief Kenney leads a 64-person organization and a county-wide communications center that provides communications services to 11 agencies in in Eagle County.

Deputy Chief Liffick is a 15 year veteran with the VPD and was promoted from Commander to Deputy Chief in March 2023. He served as a police officer in Norfolk, Virginia and served in the United States Marine Corps prior to joining the VPD. He is the current Team Commander for the county-wide Special Operations Unit.

Matthew Westenfelder

Commander Matthew Westenfelder has been in Law Enforcement since 2003, starting his career with the Avon Police Department where he worked for 8 years before moving to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office where he worked for 11 years, attaining the promotion to Sergeant, ultimately transferring to the Vail Police Department at the rank of Sergeant in 2022. During his time with the Avon Police Department, Commander Westenfelder was selected to join the Eagle County Special Operations Unit (SOU), being promoted to Team Leader in 2015. In 2023 he was promoted to Operations Commander within the Vail Police Department and Deputy Commander in the SOU. Commander Westenfelder is a husband of 18 years and a father of two daughters. In his off-time he enjoys bird hunting with his dog and fishing.

Lachlan Crawford

Commander Lachlan Crawford began his career in Law Enforcement with the Virginia Beach Police Department where he spent 13 years before moving to the Vail Police Department in 2018. Before being promoted to Investigations Commander in 2023, Lachlan held the positions of Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Detective and Detective Sergeant within the Vail Police Department. Commander Crawford moved to the US from Australia in 2005 where he had grown up. In his spare time he enjoys camping and dirt/mountain biking.

The Vail Public Safety Communications Center (VPSCC is led by Marc Wentworth and is a part of the Vail Police Department. Funded through a consortium of the Eagle County 911 Authority and 12 user agencies. The 911 Authority contributes the largest share of funds. Remaining funds are allocated to user agencies based upon the percentage of the total number of calls for service averaged over the past three years. Currently, the Town of Vail’s share is 34%.

The state-of-the art facility is supported by an advanced computer aided dispatch system, enhanced 911 phone service, and superior emergency notification systems. Dispatchers hold certifications in Emergency Medical Dispatch.
