Town of Vail Buses

Please note that dogs are not allowed on buses unless they are a trained service dog. A service animal is any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. Our drivers are trained to recognize and honor this provision of the Americans with Disabilities Act.  When a handler with a service dog enters our buses, our drivers know that two questions may be asked and only if the animal’s service tasks are not obvious: 1. Is the animal required because of a disability? 2. What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?

Dogs that are not trained to perform tasks that mitigate the effects of a disability, including dogs that are used purely for emotional support, well being, comfort or companionship, are not considered work or tasks for the purposes of the definition of a service animal, and therefore, do not qualify to board our buses under the ADA.
